Speculation about New Jersey Gov. Christie entering the 2012 Presidential Race has raised more questions about immigration: Will Christie Stick with his strong Pro-Reform Position or Flip-flop?
If he stands strong, will party leaders defend his immigration stance from the attacks of the anti-immigrant forces?

This just in: turns out all those rumors about Dobbs heading to FOX were true. After being paid $8 million to leave CNN about a year ago, the hardline immigration-obsessed host became embroiled anew in scandal last month after a year-long investigation exposed his own immigration hypocrisy (employing undocumented workers on his multi-million dollar estate).

Now, he may be right about Whitman, but talk about casting the first stone... Today Lou Dobbs becomes the latest uber-wealthy public figure to shamelessly flog the immigration issue while simultaneously benefiting from undocumented labor in his home (or rather, estate). The Nation has a devastating report out today, the result of a year-long investigation, on Dobbs' use and abuse of undocumented workers. Five of Dobbs' workers stated that the ex-CNN anchor knew that they lacked papers but looked the other way as they tended his multi-million dollar estate.

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reiterated their commitment to passing comprehensive immigration reform. After the President's low-fidelity mention of immigration reform in the State of the Union address last night, the Senators' clearly articulated commitment and bipartisan framework to get reform done was a welcome message. It will be their job, after all, to bring immigration reform to a vote in the Senate, as Representative Gutierrez outlined today.

Maegan La Mala at Vivir Latino posts video and the new findings that immigration reform would be a 1.5 trillion dollar stimulus to the economy. Dave Neiwert points out the hypocrisy of Glen Beck's "pre-emptive defense of the coming wave of anti-immigrant bigotry." (Check out the updates.)

How's this for irony: the extremist group behind the drive to recruit Lou Dobbs into a presidential run has yanked support for their one-time champion.
While bloggers debated whether Dobbs was too mean to be President, it came out that he was no longer mean enough for the extreme base he's cultivated all these years.

Yesterday the New York Times reported that Dobbs was in conversation with CNBC, and many of us asked the question, "Is CNBC ready for Dobbs?" Looks like the answer is a resounding, "no gracias." Network executives didn't give us much time to put pressure on them, announcing by the end of the day yesterday that talks were over: "Lou Dobbs won't be talking to CNBC again anytime soon."

Media Matters asks the question today, "Is CNBC prepared to invest in Dobbs and his record of conspiracy theories and inflammatory rhetoric?" They cite recent reports that CNBC is in conversation with the ousted anchor: "A December 1 New York Times blog post reported that Lou Dobbs "has held talks with the business news network CNBC in recent weeks" and that he "could conceivably host a prime time program for CNBC" or "become a commentator for the business news network."

Newsflash: Forget all that controversy surrounding CNN's Latinos in America series earlier this fall (CNN came under heavy fire for keeping incendiary host Lou Dobbs as a mainstream news anchor while trying to reach out to Latino audiences). Apparently, Lou Dobbs should now be known as Latinos' "great friend," according to... well, Lou Dobbs. To give Lou some credit, he did find a way to incorporate Latinos, especially Latino immigrants, into just about every "Lou Dobbs Tonight" broadcast, even when the topic was completely unrelated. Heck, Dobbs even gave Latino immigrants credit for a new wave of leprosy in the United States.

Via Huffington Post (This last line is priceless-- watch it): ""Saturday Night Live" went after Lou Dobbs this week, claiming he retired from CNN because he thinks the "C" stands for the Spanish word "si." Dobbs, played by Darrell Hammond, went on to refer to his replacement, John King, as "Juan" King--a man he says may have paid for his dapper appearance with drug money."

Together, we raised the $16,000 needed to run our TV ad on CNN – telling the station to drop Lou Dobbs's one-sided, anti-immigrant "news" show.
Unfortunately, CNN isn't having it. They called to say they won't take our money and have refused to air our "Drop the Hate" TV ad.

Anti-immigration groups and pundits cling to phrases like "Illegal Alien" because they only focus on foreignness and danger. These extreme factions are all about casting immigrants as what ails our society, conjuring up demons upon which to focus national ire, and perpetuating a subhuman category of being. It's a convenient distraction from things that are actually endangering our nation. A new web-only series from ColorLines called "Torn Apart by Deportation" is the perfect antidote to people like CNN's Lou Dobbs.

In the past few weeks, we've been calling for CNN to drop their controversial, anti-immigrant "news show," Lou Dobbs Tonight, along with organizations across the country.
In anticipation of CNN's highly-publicized "Latino in America" series, many of these groups were also eager to see what steps, if any, CNN would take to address their own involvement in the difficulty of being Latino in America. On the eve of the "Latino in America" premier, CNN was protested by the very same demographic it was supposed to entice.

Ronda Racha Penrice sums up much of the controversy we posted on earlier this evening in "Will movement to remove Lou Dobbs overshadow Soledad O'Brien's Latino in America at CNN?" "For many Latinos, CNN's Latino in America is not their primary concern; Lou Dobbs is... Many within the Latino community, in particular, feel that Dobbs has used his show to fuel anti-Latino sentiments, contributing to hate crimes against Latinos, as well as ongoing rejection of Latinos within this nation.

Over the past few weeks, a wide coalition of groups – America's Voice included -- have been channeling the growing outrage over CNN's determination to keep controversial host Lou Dobbs in its nightly news lineup. This is especially hypocritical as the network prepares to air it special "Latino in America" series with Soledad O'Brien.
According to Marisa Treviño of Latina Lista today, Presente.org and the BastaDobbs.com campaign launched a new video that takes CNN to task.

I was at the Washington screening of the new CNN series, "Latino in America" last night and was, well, not too happy when I left the building. I'll get into the details about that in a minute, but what really set me over the edge was when Laura Esquivel, from Media Matters, came up to me and asked if I had heard the latest from Dobbs. I hadn't, so she read me a transcript from his radio show earlier that day. He was talking about a black Chicago community activist who was upset about the President's trip to Chicago the other day. And Dobbs had some advice for the black community about issues in their community:
It's a black community problem. And part of the problem is the black community is not being responsible and I mean turning Heaven and Earth to protect our children.
