New polling released today from Lake Research Partners on behalf of America's Voice sheds light on the views of all voters toward immigration policy. The research finds that, despite midterm election gains by conservatives and Republicans, Americans' support for comprehensive immigration reform has actually increased. Voters of every demographic and political subgroup remain broadly and intensely in favor of a national, practical fix to the immigration system.

Huffington Post: "Giannoulias said unequivocally that he supports the DREAM Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children and are pursuing higher education. He also said he believes the country needs comprehensive immigration reform and applauded Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) for his work on the issue. Kirk touted himself as the "Spanish-speaking candidate" and pointed out that he went to school in Mexico. He said that the first step the United States needs to take is to "close down the border" and start "understanding" who is coming into the country. When asked how he would vote if the DREAM Act came up to a vote before all this is accomplished, he replied, "This is not the time to do that." Kirk has faced significant pressure from immigration activists on the DREAM Act."

"There is a rich precedent supporting the service of non-citizens in the U.S. military. Since the Revolutionary War, non-citizens have enlisted in the armed forces for service during periods of national emergency. Today, about 35,000 non-citizens serve, and about 8,000 permanent resident aliens enllist every year. The DREAM Act represents an opportunity to expand this pool, to the advantage of military recruitment and readiness."

Via Culture Kitchen's Liza Sabater, Massachussetts Senator Scott Brown has come out with an ugly attack on the DREAM Act, attempting to smear Harvard University's President in the process. Of course, the irony is thick: the reason that ROTC is banned from Harvard's campus is that the program is not open to all students -- specifically, LGBT students are not able to participate.

"The best and the brightest of our nation's immigrant community – who want to go to college and serve in our military – just had the door slammed in their face by the GOP. The fight will continue, but today marks a new low for a party that claims to be the party of opportunity and freedom. Evidently, talented young immigrants are not included in their country club view of who deserves opportunity and freedom."

When Nelly was nine years old, she came to the United States with her parents. Scared and unable to speak the language, she was aware of one thing: that her parents came here to provide her with a better life, and that she would do all that she could to succeed. So she learned English, excelled at school, graduated at the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA, was elected class president, and even served as Cadet Commander of her high school's ROTC program – all while holding a job to support her family.

My name is Laura López and I am an undocumented resident of Napa, California. My parents brought me in 1989 to provide for me the American Dream. I was a year and eight months old.
