Washington, D.C. – On Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM, Representatives Bill Foster, Jared Polis, and immigrant advocates will host a press conference to call on the Department of Defense to allow DREAMERs to serve in the military. The press conference will come following the introduction of a House resolution.
WHO: Congressman Bill Foster, Congressman Jared Polis, Frank Sharry, Executive Director, America’s Voice, Cesar Vargas, J.D., Co-Director, DREAM Action Coalition
WHAT: Press Conference
WHEN: Friday, July 25, 2014, 10:00 AM ET
WHERE: House Triangle Press Conference Location (Southeast side of the Capitol)
Background: In 2012, the President introduced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to allow certain undocumented individuals who were brought to the United States as children, so-called DREAMERs, to be provided temporary relief from deportation and be given the ability to work here legally. Unfortunately, the DACA program does not currently allow these youth to join the U.S. Armed Forces. However, such a change could be made through executive action.
