As we’ve been writing about, the Republican-led House this morning took a vote on an ugly amendment from Steve King that attacks DREAMers and strips away funding for President Obama’s deferred action for DREAMers (DACA) program. It was mostly a symbolic vote on a provision that will never become law (the Democrat-led Senate still has to vote on the bill the amendment is attached to), but a Republican Party that is supposed to be reaching out to minority voters is once again on the record as voting against immigrants and Latinos.
The final vote was 224 in favor of the amendment, and 201 against, with six Republicans crossing party lines to vote against King’s amendment, and three Democrats going the other way to vote yes.
We want to take a moment to thank the Republican Congressmembers who voted “no.” Many of these members come from districts where the Latino vote is rapidly growing, and represented their constituents well:
