In Case You Missed It: The Daily Show Talks Immigration from “His Panic Room”

by Van Le on 01/31/2013 at 12:28pm

The Daily Show last night with Jon Stewart and correspondents Al Madrigal and Jessica Williams covered the hot immigration news of this week with their own take on why Republicans are suddenly so willing to come to the table on reform.  As Al Madrigal said:

To see Republicans in a last-ditch attempt to ensure the continuing existence of their political party, finally reaching across the aisle with one hand while using the other to hold their noses?  It’s a great day!  ’Forced at last, forced at last, thank God almighty, we’re forced at last.’

The Daily Show warned Republicans that immigration reform might not be enough to win the GOP more Latino voters, however, considering that while “93% of Latinos support immigration reform,” “65% of Latinos hold grudges.”  And a Latino grudge, Al Madrigal said, “lasts on average just over 4 generations.”

Considering that, Republicans might have to look to other demographics to build their electoral coalition–like “fiscally-minded gays.”
