This week alone, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, and economist Robert Rubin called on Congress to pass sensible, comprehensive immigration reform. Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced a comprehensive bill that would provide serious solutions to our immigration crisis. These leaders all recognize the essential link between fixing immigration and strengthening our economic future.
According to the AP, Bloomberg stated:
We need immigrants. That’s the future of this country and whether the public understands that or not it’s Congress’ job to lead.
He further noted at the Washington Ideas Forum that the U.S. is “committing national suicide” on immigration, education, and the economy. According to The Atlantic, Bloomberg called for “a three-pronged policy that would secure the borders, provide visas to people already in the country illegally, and reduce the demand for undocumented workers.” The Menendez bill adheres to the “three-pronged” approach advocated by Mayor Bloomberg and immigration reform policy experts.
