New York Times: Obama to Tackle Immigration Reform in Year One
Important piece in the New York Times today on immigration reform. The White House reaffirms its commitment to moving immigration reform forward in year one.
Julia Preston reports:
While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.
The article doesn't get to the point that legalizing 12 million workers will vastly increase tax revenue ($66 billion over next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation), lift Americans' wages by providing a level playing field, and provide a sane counterpoint to the costly alternative being presented by the Lou Dobbs Lobby: the mass deportation of the 12 million immigrant men, women, and children living and working in the U.S. without papers.
Despite that, it is the latest, most affirmative sign that the White House is committed to moving forward on sensible solutions to our immigration crisis in the first year of an Obama administration.

Hey Chris in Kansas! Don’t feel bad. You are not the only one who fell for this sweet talkers lies. When is the last time any one of you remembers seeing a President gloat and openly make fun of the opposition when one of his socialist bills pass? Pretty low class huh? Any of you get the e-mail with him sitting in his chair with his feet up on the Resolute desk? Pretty cool guy huh? What a disrespectful narcistic jackass! Every thing he is trying right now has already failed. Take a history lesson. This guy is worse then Jimmy Carter and if you don’t remember, we had interest rates as high as 21.5% during his administration. This administration will exceed, by far, the devastating socialist administration of Woodrow Wilson who created the worst recession this country has ever known. Most of you have never heard about it because the next President allowed it to run it’s course, along with cutting government services by 56% along with government spending by half. The recession was over in 18 months, thats why we never hear about it. FDR created a pile of crap and then continued spending which kept us in a recession for a solid decade and the only thing that saved us was the forced industrialization that World War II brought on. All of you who think this illegal alien President that you elected is so great, need to go back to school and pay attention to history this time. He is ruining this country. Chris- you have my respect! You made a mistake and you are dealing with it like a man. You have seen through this guys BS and you are not afraid to speak out. The rest of you are not big enough to admit to an error so how about just staying off of these forums as you do not have the basic intelligence to make correct decisions or admit when you are wrong. Your arguments are shallow and not well founded. A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned- this is the sum of good government. (Thomas Jefferson- smartest man to have ever lived) Good luck Chris!

From the comments I have read, people just do not get it. First there are 25 to 35 million at least and I have watched over the last 25 years as our government has not just allowed this but encouraged it. They are working in all areas of our economy. Plumbing, Framing, drywall, block laying, fire protection just to name a few. There just not doing work Americans will not do! Bottom line they are depleting our resources and taking jobs from Americans in a time where jobs are hard to find. And our country will pay the price for our government betrayal, anchor babies what a misrepresentation of the Constitution our founders are turning over. Deport all Illegals and revoke all green cards.

If something is illegal then handle it as such. I say send them all back to their countries and then start screening them back to the U.S.
Tell Obama to quit using this as a political crutch. Our country has become a joke to the world.

There is ALREADY a system to become a citizen of the United States. Just because someone comes to the United States to be a college student does not make them a citizen! Just because someone has tended to a congressman’s lawn for ten years does not automatically make them a citizen of the United States. If the laws on the books are used, as they should be, there is no need to revamp the citizenship procedure. If the immigrant does not like the rules of the American way, they can go back home. Don’t try to change our way of doing business. This is another crock of “stuff” that makes my hair stand on end.

We need a comperhensive immigration policy. Give all law abiding? illegals who have been hear over two years amnesty. Don’t announce it or you will have a rush on the border. Before this is done bring home our troops from all over the world and station them along the border from Bwownsville to the Pacific. The military can set up temporary bases along this 2000 miles. We will stop all illegal traffic in humans and contraband. Then put a mandatory 5yr sentence on any employer who hires an illegal.Cut off all social programs to illegals. Many will self deport with the goodies gone. Deport any illegal convicted of a felony and when an illegal is through serving his prison sentence, he is automatically deported. We would see an economic boom along our border with our troops spending their wages in thr USA. Put a 5 yr mortorium on all immigration the day amnesty is given. Then set up a program to bring in temporary workers as needed only to stay as long as that particular job call for. They then return to country of orgin and wait in line for the next job. This would stop the influx of illegals and bad guys. Any illegal found on the street would be immediately deported. This would work, do the politicans have the cogs?

Stick immigration reform ( amnesty) in your butt.

The last time I checked this was not the “United States of Mexico”. I’m not sure why Mexicans feel they have the right to move to the front of the immigration line simply because they share a border with us. Fair and evenly balanced legal immigration is what made our country strong, not mass movement of one nationality across our border. Immigration is a privilege, not a right. Entering a country illegally and succeeding in staying there for 10 years does not entitle one to citizenship. It’s unfortunate that the entire world cannot live in the United States. We have a right to preserve our country as a diverse blend of cultures. No one nationality should be permitted to invade our country in such numbers as to bring into question preservation of its diversity.
