New York Times: Obama to Tackle Immigration Reform in Year One

obamaImportant piece in the New York Times today on immigration reform. The White House reaffirms its commitment to moving immigration reform forward in year one.

Julia Preston reports:

While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

­The article doesn't get to the point that legalizing 12 million workers will vastly increase tax revenue ($66 billion over next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation), lift Americans' wages by providing a level playing field, and provide a sane counterpoint to the costly alternative being presented by the Lou Dobbs Lobby: the mass deportation of the 12 million immigrant men, women, and children living and working in the U.S. without papers.

Despite that, it is the latest, most affirmative sign that the White House is committed to moving forward on sensible solutions to our immigration crisis in the first year of an Obama administration.

I think something needs to be done know with immgration reform.  For the majority of these people they are here just to make a better life for themselves and their familes.  given the opportunity to become legal and to get their green cards would let them work even harder for they would know they could even better themselves and their familes even more by buying homes, etc.

i have kids from my first marrage ,not able to see them because of my status,im not sure if next day will tell me that you are not welcome here after 6 years,democracy,they can find any reason or created any reason
always my lawyer contacts the immigration officers the only word i hear from them is your case still pending.if this matter took for them six years of work and still pending.,,,,democracy
i love my wife.

Have you people lost your minds?  We can hardly put the folks that were born and raised in this country a job and you want to give people who are in this country illegally those few jobs out there?  Those folks from San Francisco would vote for anything, so I wouldn’t count on you for anything.  I see too many folks getting help from the government to just sit on their collective butts and get paid for it.  All you folks that have no pride about yourself need to STOP having 8, 10 and 12 kids expecting the rest of us tax paying citizens to keep paying for them and you for allowing yourself to keep getting pregnant.  USE CONTROL or get fixed.  Obama has done nothing good for this country, except put us in debt, to where my kids and grandkids will have to pay for.  He came into office thinking he’s the KING and we are to do whatever he says - or SEIU give you a beat down.  Remember “I TALKED TO ANDY STERN”.  I don’t want someone whom has connections to FELONS and COMMUNISTS to be telling me what I can and cannot do.  Wake up folks, if we don’t stand up for the constitution, we’re going to end up down the river without a paddle.  In other words this country is going to hell in a handbag thank you King Obama.
