New York Times: Obama to Tackle Immigration Reform in Year One
Important piece in the New York Times today on immigration reform. The White House reaffirms its commitment to moving immigration reform forward in year one.
Julia Preston reports:
While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.
The article doesn't get to the point that legalizing 12 million workers will vastly increase tax revenue ($66 billion over next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation), lift Americans' wages by providing a level playing field, and provide a sane counterpoint to the costly alternative being presented by the Lou Dobbs Lobby: the mass deportation of the 12 million immigrant men, women, and children living and working in the U.S. without papers.
Despite that, it is the latest, most affirmative sign that the White House is committed to moving forward on sensible solutions to our immigration crisis in the first year of an Obama administration.

In my opinion. The immigration doesn’t work at all. For 90 % of the cases, it’s impossible to immigrate in the US.
They are pushing illegals to make fake marriages to obtain a green card. It’s scandalous to push people to do that.
My proposition is :
If you came legally in the US with a valid passport,a valid SS#, overstayed your visa for 5 years because the INS did not want to prolonge it, you must have the right to have a green. If you are not a criminal and if you never did anything wring in the US.
The 2nd proposition is :
If you enter legally in the US, invest in the US or worked for somebody (Not using fake papers). And if you are here for 10 years minimum you must have the right to become US citizen immediately.
There is no reason to wait more years, because those people will become to old to work. The life is short! And, I think that if you waited for 10 years and never did anything bad, I do not see any reason to gave them the US citizenship whithout any problem.
5 more years will not make any difference, except that the result will be worse and they will continue to work without any visa, gren card etc..People need to eat! In Europe, they are accepting immigrants more easily if you have papers.
So, as soon as this problem will be resolved, and they do not need to talk forever about that, this country will be much safer and illegals will become legals and will pay taxes etc…
It’s not difficult to understand and to do. More we wait and more terrorists can come in the US. I am sure that the US is full of them. Because we are to slow we cannot track terrorists
This situation is ridiculous and childish. You cannot have a heath care reform if you do not legalize the illegals. I mean people who came legaly in the US and overstayed their visa
About illegals who entered the US without any papers, they just have to ask to their country a passport or a birth certificate or any kind of piece of idendity.

Another thing!
If you penalize illegal immigrant by paying a fine, they willl never sow off and they will stay the way they are.Why do you want to ask money to people who cannot work. It’s absurd !They do not have any money. And the US need those people.

“When was the last time any immigrant took your job? Have you competed with an illegal immigrant for a job?” If you answered yes, then it’s no wonder why Obama wants you to go back to college. -I didn’t vote for President Obama, but I do support his reform plan on immigration.

I think immagration reform has to happen now! becuase its sad living in this country for almost have of my life and i dont even have the right to get my diploma.
I want to stay here, i want to be a nurse. working with people and taking care of this country. I think that ones that have the right to have papers and be here are the students, and also that people that are honest and responsible.

Most seem to forget that Obama is not black, nor is he an American citizen.

We can’t afford to give them all Amnesty and then bring over their Families and Relatives.
There is not enough work for Americans and Mexicans will work for low wages that they brought down in this Country.
When they came here illigally they commited a crime which should be punished.
If they went to another country they would be punished severly.
The Mexicans seem to be holding jobs while blacks and whites are unemployed.

Immigration reform, simple no SS number pr green card no benifits or public services of any kind of anykind, encluding eduation.
If anyone without a SS # or green card is pulled over for any reason then deport them. Any buisness hires anyone without a SS # or green card they are shut down. Anyone who hires anyone without a SS # or green card dor perssonal services are imprisoned.
There problem solved.

Some of the postings here are totally facitious. It is ludicrous that any American can defend illegals in our country. The functional word here is “ILLEGAL”! In this area,South Americans are buying businesses with illegal drug funds, and importing more South Americans to staff them. Meanwhile, natural born citizens are being displaced in the employment sector. Hispanic gangs are importing memebers to cities all over America. Latin Kings,MS13, and TCB signs are showing up nationally. Let us not forget all of the Middle Easterners buying up all of the businesses in order to import their own. What America needs is to raise tarriffs on import goods significantly in order to restore a manufacturing base to the US, and call for a 5 year moratorium/sanction on accepting any aliens in order to shore up jobs for existing Americans. Prosecute criminal illegals to the fullest with exile through GPS tracking units injected under their skin as is done with pets and livestock. Remember this…Hugo Chavez, and the chiefs of OPEC are not Americas friends. Neither is Wal Mart!!!
