Netroots Nation and Immigration Advocacy: Check out These Panels

Netroots Nation is right around the corner and this year’s conference will kick off in Pittsburgh, PA tomorrow!

We’re excited here at America's Voice. Not only are we sending eight, talented, immigration bloggers to the conference with a new scholarship program, we’ve also got some talented members of our own team who will be presenting on a number of panels themselves --

Jackie Mahendra will be presenting at “Si se Puede 2.0,” Saturday, August 15th, 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM, where panelists will discuss:

“online and offline strategies to motivate diverse communities to take action on [immigration reform]. Learn how to leverage mobile and blog strategies, 3D games, video documentaries, creative online actions, and viral videos to create change.”

She'll also be discussing how different members reach distinct constituencies while staying true to each member’s identity, Thursday, August 13th, 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM, at "Online Congressional Engagement Beyond Twitter."

Paco Fabian will be sharing his perspective at “Root Of Right Wing Media’s Hatred Of President Obama,” Thursday, August 13th, 4:30 PM - 5:45 PM, discussing recent events such as the controversy over Obama’s birth certificate, health reform, and the greater need to “push back” against those in the media who are “mainstreaming the Right’s extremist messages on national news networks.”

Other panels to check out and attend?

Kety Esquivel from NCLR, David Bennion of Change.org, and Dee Perez-Scott of Immigration Talk with a Mexican American will be discussing “the dynamics of the social change blogosphere from civil rights/pro-migrant perspectives” on “Four Perspectives from the Social Change Blogosphere: Case Studies from Civil Rights/Pro-Migrant Bloggers”, Friday, August 14th, 4:30 PM - 5:45 PM.

And definitely don’t miss Xavier Lopez-Ayala of Alliance for a Better Minnesota and Jenifer Fernandez Ancona of Presente.org on “Who’s Left Out? Taking a Critical Look at Online Organizing,” Thursday, August 13th, 4:30 PM - 5:45 PM, which will take a closer look at why some communities and populations are “left out” and what strategies and tactics to incorporate in a campaign in order to get such groups involved and engaged.
