Cecilia Muñoz Sums up the Week, as Senator Reid, Speaker Pelosi Pledge to Reform Immigration

RI4A conference Yesterday Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) committed to making the reform of our nation's dysfunctional immigration system a top priority in Congress, after healthcare and energy. Matthew Yglesias writes in "Pelosi & Reid Commit to Immigration Reform:"

Nancy Pelosi “told the Asian American and Pacific Islander Summit this morning that Congress would tackle immigration reform after finishing with health care and energy.” CD opined that “it seems unlikely that Congress could work through all three mega-issues this year” but Pelosi didn’t say that. Harry Reid, meanwhile, explicitly said he thought immigration could be done this year:

“As far as I’m concerned, we have three major issues we have to do this year, if at all possible: No. 1 is healthcare; No 2 is energy, global warming; No. 3 is immigration reform,” Reid said. “It’s going to happen this session, but I want it this year, if at all possible.”

Well, today Cecilia Muñoz, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House, summed up a week's worth of townhalls, testimonies, and strategy sessions with a simple but powerful message.

For those of us who are serious about passing comprehensive immigration reform, the most important measure is whether we generate the support in Congress to move and pass a vehicle.

Nobody is doing this for show.

That's not why you're here. [...] That's not why the President has stated his committment to this issue over and over again. [...]

We understand that. We know that you understand that. We know that's why you're here.

Judging by the standing ovation and the round after round of "Si Se Puede's" echoing through the Summit arena after Muñoz' speech, generating support in Congress to pass real immigration reform is exactly what those 800 reform advocates- and the hundreds of thousands of diverse constituents whom they represent back home- are fired up and ready to do.

I applaud our President for attempting so many things and so soon in his presidency. He knows there will be opposition and he’s given enough time for everyone to be heard. in the end, I’m certain his ideas will prevail, though, so long as we send a single message over and over and over again. Stick uncompromisingly to that message!

I have a real problem with people from other countries making
demands…from any US…GOVT/STATE, LOCAL AGENCY…etc…
and especially from the PEOPLE OF the US…THESE “ILLEGALS” make
it BAD HERE for EVERYONE. This is a HATE CRIME against the people of the US.

It is totally WRONG and a SHAME for any of THESE PEOPLE to DEMAND anything
from another COUNTRY that is not their OWN HOMELAND nor from that
Country’s PEOPLE.

When are these people’s COUNTRIES going to OWN UP…to their “own” people…
Where are these so-called “COUNTRIES” when their people need them….too CORRUPT, right? Still no excuse.

SHAME ON THESE PEOPLE and SHAME ON THEIR OWN COUNTRY…

These people should be PROTESTING IN “THEIR” OWN COUNTRY and
DEMANDING FROM “THEIR” OWN COUNTRY’S RESOURCES and
GOVERNMENTS…“Si Se Puede!!!”...

So, why aren’t you “FIGHTING FOR THEM IN THEIR COUNTRY”?...Is it much easier
for you to DAMN the US rather than doing what you SHOULD be doing to FIGHT
FOR THESE PEOPLE in THEIR OWN COUNTRY?

WHY SHOULD WE BE MADE RESPONSIBLE for ANYONE from another
COUNTRY and for THEIR CHILDREN?

ALL COUNTRIES HAVE THEIR OWN RULES and LAWS.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN THE US?

ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL, BREAKING THE LAWS OF THE LAND.
I would have to abide by those Countries RULES/LAWS if I were visiting a
“FOREIGN” country.

When are these people going to start FIGHTING for THEIR OWN COUNTRY…
so that their own COUNTRY will HELP THEM in their needs?
AREN’T THEY “PROUD” OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY? “Si Se Puede!!!”...

WHY should the people of the US foot the bill for them in any thing?
ARE these people being responsible and doing the RIGHT THING in the US?
ANY OF these so-called “PARENTS” SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE
FOR THEIR OWN CHILDREN’S WELFARE….SHAME ON THEM.
WHOSE ID’s are they using and abusing, why don’t they use their own official ID’s?
Are they following the same RULES like WE have to FOLLOW when
we are in a FOREIGN COUNTRY?
Did these people put in their own paperwork to process thru the right channels?
Why should they get/expect any handouts here in the US?...
